Abstract
Ninety two pakinsonian patients and 20 control subjects were tested for cognitive function and motor performance. Parkinsonian subjects did significantly worse in all testes, including general intelligence, visuo-spatial, and frontal lobe functions. The degree of cognitive deficits had inverse relationship with the stage of Parkinson's disease. Parkinsonian patients showed overt impairment of performance IQ in spite of relatively preserved verbal IQ, I.e., verbal-performance dissociation. Fifty-two percent of patients had dementia who were older mean age and had more advanced parkinsonian feature than those of non-demented group. Demented subjects showed higher depression score than the non demented group. This finding suggest that depression has a negative role on cognitive performance of demented parkinsonian subjects.
