Abstract
Malignant schwannoma is originated from nerve sheath. Its pulmonary and hepatic metastases were reported frequently, but cerebral metastasis was rare. The authors report a case of brain metastasis from a malignant schwannoma arising from left sciatic nerve sheath. Sixtyyear old patient was admitted due to left side hemiparesis. The patient had undergone a surgical resection of the primary tumor in the left thigh. Brain MRI was showed low signal lesion in right frontoparietal area. Microscopically, the neoplasm was composed of spindle cell of neuronal origin that tumor cell was showed herring-bone pattern arrangement with high mitotic activity on high power field. This histologic finding was simialar to that of primary tumor in the left thigh. Immunohistochemically, the tumor shows positive for S-100 protein.
