- Abstract
- Among 15 neuro-Behcet patients who were admitted at Seoul National University Hospital from Jan. 1979 to Sept 1985, 13 were men and only 2 were women. They were aged from 22 to 48 (mean 34.2).
Although they showed diverse neurological symptoms and signs such as gait difficulty,
mental change, headache, dysarthria, altered conscousness, ataxia, hyperreflexia, paresis, etc.,
these presentations could be roughly divided into Nme (meningoencephalitis type) and Nbc
(brain stem-cerebellar type) in as many as 12 cases.
The two types were not mutually exclusive in their manifestations, but showed
significant difference in CSF white blood cell count (145.4:17.2), steroid response (better on
Nme), and prognosis (worse on Nbc). As disease process goes on Nme tends to change into
Nbc, which made us believe that Nbc is just the end result of recurrent meningeal
inflammation.
